Even if you can't make it to Ascendio

You can still be a part of its magic!

At past HPEF events, individuals, websites, groups, ships, friends, teams and others have sponsored programming sessions, and we are pleased to introduce a reprise of our Programming Sponsorship Program for Ascendio; the deadline to be included in the Program is June 23, and the deadline to have signage at your sponsored session or Meet Up is July 8. You can sponsor a session even if you're not going to be able to make it to Ascendio - and if you do, we'll send you a copy of the official Ascendio program!

Each of Ascendio's presentations, panels, round tables, debates and discussions is available for sponsorship, at a rate of $100 per session. Formal programming session sponsors will be thanked with a sign in the room during the session, a mention at the start of the session which will be included on the formal programming session recording and, if the sponsorship is paid before June 21, 2012, we will also be able to include an acknowledgment in the program.

This year, Hogwarts House and Pottermore House Meetups can also be sponsored! Meetup session sponsors will be thanked with a sign or table tent in the room during the session and Ascendio will arrange for snacks for the meetup's attendees.

Ready to sponsor something awesome? Click here for the Google Checkout page! If you need to pay via PayPal, please email us at pr@hp2012.org and we'll coordinate that directly with you.

Volunteer to make Ascendio magical!

If you're interested in helping out with Ascendio, there's something terrific for you to do in Orlando in July. Remember, you need a registration for the day(s) that you want to volunteer, except that everyone is invited to help out on Wednesday when we stuff registration packs, to work the door at the To the Manor Ball, and on Sunday for the Auction and Raffle.

Some of the areas where you can help include:

  • Security (you get a cool t-shirt!)

  • Programming Prefects (essentially room monitors for Formal Programming sessions)

  • Common Room staff (help monitor our Common Room... and enjoy the festivities at the same time!)

  • Registration desk

  • Meet & Greet desk (love to give directions/explain things to people? This is for you!)

  • Decorations (on site, this includes decorating before the ball, and more!)

Click here fill out the Volunteer Form and be placed in our Database; we'll get in touch with you and put you on a team within a day or two.

Ascendio is run entirely by volunteers. From the board and senior staff to the on-site volunteers, HPEF events wouldn't be what they are without help and commitment from its attendees. By volunteering, you can help shape Ascendio, meet fellow fans before the symposium, and gain an insider's viewpoint to event planning.

Plus, we're having a reception or two for our volunteers, and if you help out onsite, you're cordially invited!

The Programming Hat

Ascendio Programming Summaries in a Word Cloud
It's not a word cloud! It's a word hat, made up of the most popular words in the Ascendio formal programming session summaries. We're asking all the presenters to please click the button below to repost this - and include your session summaries (and times, and rooms) so everyone knows where to find you at Ascendio next month because O_O formal programming starts a month from today!

You can find the Programming Session grids here:
Thursday Quill Track |  Friday  |  Saturday  &  Sunday

There are so many different wonderful presentations planned for this year’s event that it’s going to be tough to figure out which sessions to attend, so we’ve created an Ascendio scheduling app using Guidebook; download yours here - it's free!

And don't forget about all our after-hours Meetups (Avengers! Sherlock! Hogwarts Houses! Cosplayers! Educators! Doll collectors! And many more!) and events like Night of a Thousand Wizards 2, where we return to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and get to hang out until 1 AM after all the Muggles have gone home (and no stadium presentations by Universal this time - instead, we go right into the park).

If you haven't registered yet, there's still time; online registration is open through June 25 and Day Passes will be available on-site.

See you next month at HPEF's eighth - and final - Harry Potter fan extravaganza!

Now, please, presenters and attendees - click the button below... Remember! Online registration closes on June 25!

It's Draco's birthday!

Today is Draco's birthday, so let's flashback to Nimbus - 2003 & the "Can Draco Malfoy Be Redeemed?" panel, moderated by Aja, with panelists Irina Achildiyev, Cassandra Claire, Carlisle Elizabeth Kraft & Catherine Tosenberger

He has been compared to Adolph Hitler, Mr. Darcy, and the Vampire Lestat. He inspires rampant hatred and fervent loyalty. His character transformation through fan fiction is both a unique fandom phenomena and the source of heated debate. Is his redemption in canon a foregone conclusion or a lost cause better left to the realm of sympathetic fans? Join us as we examine the furor surrounding the powder keg otherwise known as Draco Malfoy, and find out.

(FYI: Three of the panelists will be back at Ascendio - find them and ask if their feelings about Draco have changed!)
Earlier today, we tweeted for the 2000th time from the @HPEF twitter account; we wanted to do something special to mark the moment, so for 2000 minutes (in other words, until 11:59 PM on June 5) you can take 2000 pennies (that’s $20) off a Night of a Thousand Wizards 2 ticket for you or a friend! Just use the code N1K2K when you register for Ascendio or modify your registration to add a NoaTW2 ticket.

If you’re already ticketed for NoaTW2 and don’t purchase another ticket for a friend or family member, we’ll have a special surprise for you next week, so stay tuned for it!
